Idiot’s Guide to Creating a Podcast

ipod-nano-podcast

Bored?  Want to promote your band?  Stay at home mom with tons of new learnings but nowhere to share them?  Maybe you should consider creating a podcast.  It’s quite easy.

I’ve provided a collection of resources to help you get started.  Before jumping the gun, you may want to plan your podcast.  Just like producing videos, you want to have an idea of what you want your podcast to accomplish, a theme that fits your message, and the audience you are trying to reach for subscriptions.  Once you have a roadmap, you can begin producing, publishing, and promoting your podcast.

Ask a Ninja

My latest favorite game addiction NinJump for iPhone

You can ask a ninja anything.  Even about podcasts.

The YouTube video below is a priceless answer to the question “What is Podcasting?”.  Entertainment value aside, it inspired me to think of a satirical list of what not to do when creating a podcast.

The Arch Nemesis

My hero Manny Pacquaio with his arch nemesis (before he beat the #$%& out of him)

When you have a great idea brewing in your head, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement.  Then, reality sets in and you become cognizant of the size of the Internet and the other “great” ideas in it.  Well, my friends, the time has come for me to evaluate my arch nemesis.

Don’t believe everything you hear.  Microsoft can be innovative, too.

The online advertising industry is a special interest network and there are lots of us out there.  We are always looking for the next big thing, checking to see who is testing the water, what is driving the latest optimization idea, and how everyone is leveraging the information.  In the advertising world, I think new ideas have a shorter shelf life than one hit wonders, therefore it is imperative to keep reinventing the wheel.  If you don’t, you’ll easily find yourself running behind everyone else.

It’s Tool Time!

“Does everybody know what time it is?”

If you don’t have a personal Al Borland to help you out with your podcast production, check out the handy tools below.  I’ve been searching for digital power tools to help me develop a personal podcast on social media resources, which I hope to launch on social potato chips within the next three months.  Since I’m still learning how to edit (video and audio), it was important for me to find resources that are easy to learn, and most especially those are $FREE.99

Special thanks to #kegill for introducing some of these resources.  Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor would be proud.

What is it about Podcasting?

This is supposed to be a motivational post about podcasting, but I can’t help but find these very demotivational posters absurdly hilarious.

This month, I traveled to Europe through the UW Global Business Study Tour Program.  The night before my flight (more like 4 hours before my 7am flight), I was frantically gathering books and music playlists to keep me entertained for the 23 hour journey.  After downloading as much songs as I could, I stumbled across video podcasts on iTunes.  I found a plethora of free podcast subscriptions to news shows I already watch and others I haven’t heard of.  I ended up downloading 4 podcasts for my trip, including my latest favorite, The Rachel Maddow Show Podcast. So, what is a podcast you ask and why should you care?
