Snow in Seattle Means I’m Pinteresting

Screenshot of my Pinterest board. Also, social // potato chips recipes are now on Pinterest!

The weathermen of Seattle have a tough job.  No matter how much science is taken into consideration for weather forecasting, the OCD nature of this Emerald City does not go unaccounted for.  Who can forget the predicted snow storm that turned up as just rain, or the unforeseen “Snowmaggedon” leading to an unplanned city bumper car session?

Well folks, the weathermen of Seattle are celebrating somewhere today because today’s expected snow propelled their credibility to a new level.  Which means, I am enjoying the mesmerizing fall of huge snowflakes from indoors, folding seven loads of laundry (smh) and ready to spend endless hours on Pinterest.  What is Pinterest, you ask? Integrating Search & Social Media

Independent spend in social marketing is increasing, via eMarketer

Today, I attended the Search Marketing Now webinar “Social Media Success = Search + Social” sponsored by Covario.  As social networks have grown and somewhat matured in the past few years, search marketers are discovering a synergy between their search engine marketing (SEM) and social campaigns.  We know people are spending more time consuming and sharing content on Facebook and Twitter, but how much exactly?

+ More than 65M people “like” things on Facebook daily
+ More than 200M Tweets on Twitter daily

This means there are valuable data that can be leveraged for cross-marketing efforts.  Here are some tidbits I learned. Continue Reading…

Google…Plus or Minus?

Screenshot of my G+ circles. I got tired after adding 50 contacts. I swear I have more friends…maybe I don’t?

I spent the evening playing with Google’s latest brainchild, the Google+ project.  Here are my initial thoughts after tinkering around the platform for 2-3 hours.  Need an invite?  Send me a note or comment, but according to @ChrisPirillo‘s sources, “We’ve shut down invite mechanism for the night. Insane demand. We need to do this carefully, in a controlled way.” Continue Reading…

Making A Brand…Stick.

Oh, Seattle summer.  How I love you so! (Pic taken with my iPhone 4, sticker placed behind street sign on Capitol Hill, Seattle)

I’m in the process of going through another site redesign, this time with the help of @RedRussak from @FirstTimeOnline (because frankly, I’d like to enjoy my weekends this summer).  Whether you’re a first-time visitor on the blog or you’ve been reading my posts for some time, I’d like to formally share that Social // Potato Chips will be re-branding as a lifestyle blog for the art, food, music, technology, and/or digital marketing enthusiasts.  Social // Potato Chips will continue to be a place where I will digest my junk on art, digital marketing, and social media – but willl soon include a collection of recipes, pretty things, and mind-shaking thoughts.

Before I get started, I’m setting up a small branding experiment with the help of BuildASign.com. I’ve recently ordered 150 bumper stickers, promoting “Think Social” (see top left in picture).  What do I plan on doing with this many bumper stickers?  See how you can win a $25 gift card to Amazon.com. Get Write With Your Blog

Creative inspiration by iNkMan. Guest blog entry by Jason Yormark, Vice President of Marketing & Social Media at Strategies 360. You can find him on Twitter, Facebook and at his personal blog jasonyormark.com.

Look around and you’ll find hundreds if not thousands of blog articles on how to drive more traffic to your website/blog.  Everything from back link strategies, to social media to blog commenting are recommended to help drive eyeballs to your site.  And while all those strategies certainly can contribute to that, the most often overlooked strategy is the one that should warrant most of your time; the writing. Subway, Eat Fresh (for longer)

I looove sandwiches.

Lately, I’ve been looking for ways to save money.  Subway seems to do the trick – I’m on a mission to try everything on the $5 footlong menu.  My boyfriend, Steve, doesn’t seem to mind, considering he can happily eat Subway every day for the rest of his life.  If you know Steve, you know this also applies to all relatively healthy fast food joints like Taco Del Mar.

I tried buying a footlong sandwich to eat a 6-inch for lunch, then the other for dinner.  My one gripe is the sogginess of the bread when you save it for later.  It would be nice to get one side of the sandwich without any condiments, and provide “to-go” packets of mustard and mayo.  Why don’t they promote this concept?

How you can help: Japan Earthquake & Tsunami

“The world is so full of care and sorrow that it is a gracious debt we owe to one another to discover the bright crystals of delight hidden in somber circumstances and irksome tasks.” -Helen Keller

As I am wrapping up my final hours in Costa Rica, I am truly grateful for the values that I have been reminded of by the local natives.  My girlfriends and I spent a wonderful week living in community–and by community I mean sharing space, laughter, meals, and stories.  When their vacation came to an end, I stayed behind for a few more days in search of solitude (thank you, Walden by Henry David Thoreau), embracing in the initially daunting serenity that eventually lead me to huge gratification.  I saw travelers come and go, befriended locals, and watched the tragic horror unfold in Japan.

While my heart was being filled with the meaning of life, or Pura Vida as the Costa Ricans often say, my heart was mourning on behalf of the victims, survivors, and families of lost loved ones.  Although these events are strikingly contradicting, they have one thing in common.  They serve as a reminder of life’s meanings: people, happiness, and most importantly, giving.  These are the values that give me energy for life.
