Pretty much sums it up.

Death is like a sunset. It symbolizes the end of day, a day of life. The colors are both serene and somber, yet beautiful. It’s the celebration of life.
Today is the first day of my one week “unemployment”, or staycation as some would call it. While I’ve taken two week vacations here and there, I’ve never really taken time off between jobs since I was 16.
So here I am, with nothing but also a million things to do on my checklist, I start my morning by reading the news on my Google Reader. I came across several posts that hit close to home, including one from my friend Jenna. I can’t help but join the effort to support Jennie, who recently lost her husband. Continue Reading…

My badge picture reminds me of how I feel when I get passports renewed. It just makes you realize how much younger you used to look…
It has been a quiet past few weeks for me, with Seattle summer finally in bloom and visitors coming into town. I’ve been taking tons of pictures and cooking up a storm, but have yet to make it on the blog – it’s coming soon, I promise!
More specifically, I’ve been working on a new and bittersweet transition in my life. After 6 years of service, today marks my last day at Microsoft – the company that has introduced me to the world of paid search, online advertising, and everything in between. Continue Reading…
This weekend, I’m finally kicking off the Trader Joe’s Challenge.
The Trader Joe’s Challenge is a collection of recipes using majority of ingredients from Trader Joe’s, which provides an easy shopping list to maintain a healthy lifestyle for busy people on the go!
I’ve been meaning to start this challenge for some time. It all began like this. Continue Reading…

I see tigers and these tigers seem pretty happy to me. Clearly, Jennifer Tsan (and friends) isn’t a tiger mom but this picture is too cute not to share.
Lately, I’ve been having some conversations with various friends about the meaning of life, what makes us happy, our passions, etc. We live in a very success and status driven culture, where sacrificing your needs to live the so-called American Dream is the norm, just as our parents and forefathers laid the foundation for us at a young age.
Here are my thoughts on the recent “Tiger Mom” and “Paper Tiger” controversy, along with a list of TED talks for new graduates, for anyone looking for a little inspiration on this hump Wednesday. Continue Reading…

My graduation speech at Seattle University Commencement in 2005
In spirit of all the graduations this weekend (and past several weeks), I’d like to dedicate this post to all newly graduates, especially my little cousin Rosa, who will be starting a new chapter in her life this fall as she enters the most memorable time period in a person’s life: COLLEGE (wouldn’t you agree?).
I dug up an old video of my graduation speech from Seattle University to remind myself of what’s important in life. Mark Twain once said, “Don’t let education get in the way of your learning.” While I believe in higher education, it is important to complement our academic resume with experience, and remembering that people, relationships–connections contribute to our journey. Enjoy

“The world is so full of care and sorrow that it is a gracious debt we owe to one another to discover the bright crystals of delight hidden in somber circumstances and irksome tasks.” -Helen Keller
As I am wrapping up my final hours in Costa Rica, I am truly grateful for the values that I have been reminded of by the local natives. My girlfriends and I spent a wonderful week living in community–and by community I mean sharing space, laughter, meals, and stories. When their vacation came to an end, I stayed behind for a few more days in search of solitude (thank you, Walden by Henry David Thoreau), embracing in the initially daunting serenity that eventually lead me to huge gratification. I saw travelers come and go, befriended locals, and watched the tragic horror unfold in Japan.
While my heart was being filled with the meaning of life, or Pura Vida as the Costa Ricans often say, my heart was mourning on behalf of the victims, survivors, and families of lost loved ones. Although these events are strikingly contradicting, they have one thing in common. They serve as a reminder of life’s meanings: people, happiness, and most importantly, giving. These are the values that give me energy for life.

Ahhh, robots! More pics by Ben Heine here.
It’s two days before Christmas and I know there are some of you who have yet to check who’s been naughty or nice. Since it’s my day off and I am nothing but lame to geek out on the interwebs at a coffee shop with my dear friend Ashley, I’ve come up with a few last minute unisex gifts for the techies on your list. Bonus: No facing or tackling crowds required!

Token picture of random amish people because Steve claims I am now part amish.
Since my last post, I’ve been hiding out in my apartment practicing my Dance Central moves on the XBOX Kinect. Just kidding, or am I?
What I’ve really been doing is experimenting life without the internet. WTF, you say? To my surprise, it’s not quite the FML package I imagined. It all started with my rage against Comcast for increasingly outrageous costs that ultimately could not be remedied with a phone call to their customer service department. After living in the comfort of multiple 6-month free and/or discounted trials, I could no longer justify a $100+ monthly variable cost for cable and internet. So here I am, internet-less in Seattle.
As I grow accustomed back to my pre-Internet childhood days, I am slowly realizing the re-adoption of activities that once served as daily habits. I’ve decided to create a random list of the little things that keep me entertained sans interwebs. I welcome all of your suggestions. Continue Reading…
